According to a major international investigative agency, background checks are turning up more criminal records and undisclosed or distorted matters on the resumes it checks. According to the agency, criminal record “hits” increased more than ½ a point from 8.5% in 2005 to 9.1% in 2006, while discrepancies about past employment increased from 36.5% in 2005 to 49.4% in 2006; and discrepancies about education increased from 14.1% in 2005 to 21.5% in 2006.
