Why conduct pre-employment background checks?

According to a major international investigative agency, background checks are turning up more criminal records and undisclosed or distorted matters on the resumes it checks. According to the agency, criminal record “hits” increased more than ½ a point from 8.5% in 2005 to 9.1% in 2006, while discrepancies about past employment increased from 36.5% in 2005 to 49.4% in 2006; and discrepancies about education increased from 14.1% in 2005 to 21.5% in 2006.

For details see: http://www.kroll.com/about/library/hit_ratio/

-Additionally, the risk you take and the potential liability you may face as an employer if you don't--should be more than convincing....for details go to www.sueweavercause.org

Sue Weaver was raped, beaten and murdered in her home by a twice convicted sex offender. A major US company sent him to Sue's home to clean her air ducts. That company did not conduct background checks on its independent subcontractors...Sue's life is over. The company paid the family millions. The subcontractor is no longer in business. Sue's murderer is in prison...but nothing will bring Sue back...
